The Bergh Family Records

F.R.B. wrote in German on 26th April 1906 to the Burgermaster of Bredstedt asking for certain information regarding Johann Berg and his son Frantz.

On the letter in German the Burgermaster has written a request to Paster Millies to look into the matter. 2nd May 1906.

This Pastor writes:

"Mr F.R.Bergh - London E.C. I cannot find and Franz Berg in the Baptismal Register of 1720-30. To my enquiry at Friedrichstadt I received the enclosed answer fro the Evangelical - Lutheran Pastor"

My dear Colleague,

I am sorry to say I cannot find the Marriage Register of 1747. I have not even ever seen it. Although the Baptismal Registers go back a long way, the Marriage Register begins with 1859. The earlier ones are missing.

I have searched in the Baptismal Register for 1720-30 but cannot find any Franz Berg.

Did he perhaps belong to some other persuasion?

I shall be very willing to make further searches if you could give me any more detailed particulars.

Yours etc.
E. Keck.

N.B. I do not understand why Herr Keck says he "cannot find the Marriage Register of 1747". See his letter dated 4th January 1906 - only 4½ months previously. - R.F.B.
