From Rossmann's Pantheon p.23, published 1823:-

BERG F.C.A. "living in London"
The Grave, a poem by "Hugo" Blair, Hamburg 1785.

Professor Moritz mentioned above is no doubt Karl Philipp Moritz born 15.9.1757 in Nammeln and died 26.6.1793 in Berlin. They would almost certainly be acquainted.

F.C.A.Berg also published a German-English Grammar which can be seen at the British Museum called:-

"Concise Grammar of the German language by Franz Christophe August Berg, Teacher of the English and German languages at Hamburgh - Hamburgh 1798".

In "Cone Afield" by Cecil Roberts there are references to Moritz on his trip from London to Oxford thro' Henley in 1792. Well worth reading for the references to Henley as to the state of the Country then; also I wonder if Moritz came to England at the suggestion of F.C.A..Berg. - F.R.B.

This letter was sent by a German Archivist in Berlin (Dr. Felix Landau) to the Burgomeister of Friedrichstadt, who states "nothing found in the Town Archives" but returns it with a most inportant letter from a Pastor whose letter is dated 4th January 1905. I have studied the original and without doubt the date should be 4th January 1906. - R.F.B.
